I just passed phase 1 of the FAA's "Wings" program. Its basically a pro-safety program where you get a nifty little lapel pin for going to a safety lecture and taking a few lessons, which I'd probably do anyway.

It also gets you out of the Biennial Flight Review. Put another way, its sort of like the teacher saying "You don't have to take the final, since you did all your homework this year."

I remember earning my wings. I was eight years old and the flight attendant brought us up to the cockpit where the pilot showed us the controls. Then we got a lapel pin! Was your class anything like that?

Sort of. I mean, I get to sit in the cockpit, look at the dials, and push some buttons. After I do that for three hours, I get some wings.
