Took a practice flight test with an instructor on Saturday. Did pretty well on the oral portion, and ok on the flight portion, though I would have failed had it been the real thing. Was quite useful though, since now I know what I need to practice before the actual test.

Two major problems -- one was with getting the plane down on the runway without power but in the airport pattern. This is something that I've had about a 50% success rate with overall, mostly because it is pretty hard to judge how far the plane will glide, especially because wind changes and you only get one shot at it, really. Historically I've always been high, this time I was low. According to the instructor being high is better, and is almost always recoverable in time, so I should mostly focus on getting over the runway even if I have to dive to make the landing once I'm there.

The other problem was mostly me not quite understanding how one portion of the flight test was supposed to work, not any real inability with the plane (specifically, when diverting to an airport on the checkride, you need to report a few calculations about distance, fuel required, etc, which I didn't do because I didn't remember they were required). So, that will be easy to remember to do next time.

A few other minor to work on, plus I should get some practice at all the likely airports where we'll be diverting too so I don't inadvertantly blow through airspace or something similar because I'm not familiar with the airport.
