My iPod had been acting up -- freezing in the middle of playback, unable to read songs from the disk, etc. I had almost given up on it. However, it turns out its like windows -- a reformat will solve anything, so my iPod lives again (after a system software "restore")!

I was going to go flying today, but it was pretty gusty, so I'm here on the ground. Sigh. Better to be on the ground and wishing you were flying than the other way around though :)

Also, going to IETF next week, have to get up really early for the flight though.

Yah, there's two ways that can happen to an iPod. One is just filesystem corruption -- the thing's built-in fsck is inadequate if you're not careful. In that case, a reformat really does solve it. But the other thing that can happen is low level disk trouble. A reformat can sometimes hide that one, as different songs get laid on to the bad blocks and such. My first iPod had this problem, took a while to figure it out. Eventually Apple replaced it.
